In our own travels abroad we have come across some really interesting travel experiences, and we very much like to share them with you!
THAILAND
We found this exquisite place in Bangkok, Napa Place, which was perfect for exploring Bangkok. You're just a short walk from the nearest Skytrain station, and walking distance to some of the best shopping and eating Thailand has to offer!
Catching the daytrain to Chiang Mai, we booked into Baan Orapin, a old colonial style Guesthouse. Great setting, wonderful pool, fantastic breakfast and typical friendly Thai welcome and service.
It's just a 200m walk to the footbridge over the river into Chiang Mai town centre, with its extensive flower market and great food stalls. Don't forget to treat yourself to a massage or manicure/pedicure, it's so affordable and terribly relaxing!
Next onto our trip we visited the Elephant Nature Park, a moving experience. Lek, the founder, has rescued some 32 elephants from their miserable lives trekking, working or performing for tourists. When you hear the history of each elephant you can't help but feel shameful that mankind can treat such a majestic animal that way! We only managed to be there for one day, but next time we intend to stay for three days and become more acquainted with them.
THE NETHERLANDS
Last time I was there my brother talked me into joining him for a motorbike ride (I hadn't ridden for years!) through the countryside of Twente, the province he lives in. Fantastic! Since then he has started his own business, organising motorbike hire, rides and (best of all) organised tours abroad!
Rather than riding all the way into Germany, Italy, France or wherever, you are driven to your destination in a luxury motorcoach. Upon arrival at your destination your bike is ready and waiting for you, either to be taken on your own choice of route or in convoy with others. I can't wait to join him on one of these trips next time I'm "Up There" again, but in the meantime have a look at Twente Great.
